At HouseJet, our company is only as strong as the people behind it. We love shining the light on our driven and talented staff who make it all possible. We sat down for an interview with our executive business advisor, Sydney, so our readers can get a peek at what it’s like to be a part of our team here at HouseJet.
Can you share a little about your career journey and what led you to your current position?
“I didn’t originally plan on becoming an Executive Business Advisor at HouseJet, but I believe everything happens for a reason, and I am thankful it led me here. I’m originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and moved to Springfield, Missouri, to attend Missouri State University, where I graduated in May 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Movement Science. Shortly after, in June of 2023, I joined HouseJet. While this wasn’t the path I had envisioned right after college, I saw an incredible opportunity and decided to take it. Once I started, I quickly found my stride, advancing through four positions in just four months with consistent hard work and dedication before stepping into my current role as Executive Business Advisor.”
What does a typical day look like for you in this position?
“A typical day in my position is coming in about 30 minutes early to get ready for the day. Start our team meeting at 8:30 am- this includes positive focus from everyone, sharing any challenges from the previous day, setting our goals, and adding a little lighthearted conversation to keep the energy upbeat. We start calling our appointments at 9:00 am and they run through 5:30 pm. I have appointments every 30 minutes, but I always focus on ‘loving the one I’m with,’ which sometimes means letting a great conversation run longer. Throughout the day, our office has an incredible energy. We encourage each other, stay positive, and make sure, as we like to say, our vectors are always pointed in the right direction.”
How would you describe your leadership style when working with your team?
“I would describe my leadership style as leading by example. I stay focused on my goals and block out distractions, which helps set the tone for the team. I’m highly competitive with myself and those around me, which pushes everyone, including me, to perform at our best. At the same time, I emphasize accountability by checking in on the goals we’ve set, whether they’re daily, weekly, or monthly. Most importantly, I aim to create an encouraging environment where people feel supported to grow and motivated to succeed.”
How has technology changed the way agents and brokers do business over the past few years?
“Technology has truly transformed the way agents and brokers operate. It allows them to focus on what they do best—helping clients with their real estate needs, rather than spending hours on cold calling, door knocking, or sending mailers. At HouseJet, our technology takes this to the next level with Automated Conversion Programming, which helps agents turn leads into commission checks efficiently. Along with multiple assistants, brand builders, a nationwide portal, marketing tools, and other features, our systems provide a full support team behind every partner, ensuring they can work smarter, not harder.”
From your perspective, what makes HouseJet stand out in the real estate industry?
“HouseJet stands out in the real estate industry because we are agent-owned and operated. Our CEO, Mike Oddo, was a highly successful real estate agent, and the systems and processes he developed are now used by our agents, proven to drive real results. We’re also a rapidly growing company, having been featured on the Inc. 5000 list four times in a row. Beyond growth, our core values set us apart. We embrace a growth mindset, are coachable, and seek opportunity in every challenge. At HouseJet, we believe individuals are limitless and that a team of “A” players can truly change the world.”
How do you keep your colleagues motivated and aligned with company goals?
“Keeping colleagues motivated and aligned with company goals starts with my leadership style: I lead by example and maintain steady motivation throughout the team. Having shared goals—daily, weekly, and monthly helps everyone stay focused and driven. We also use competitions to boost engagement, which is something most people in sales naturally enjoy. Whether we break into small teams or work as one, everyone brings their best, and ultimately, we’re all working together toward a common goal.”
What do you enjoy doing outside of work that helps keep you balanced?
“Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s walking, hiking, or working out. Being outside helps me reset and recharge. I also enjoy traveling, whether it’s visiting family back home, going to our lake house, taking spontaneous weekend trips, or exploring somewhere new! Team building is very important among advisors. We are a close group of colleagues and share similar interests. For example, after recently winning a monthly competition, our team will be celebrating with a fun bonding night at Big Shots golf.”
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
“The most rewarding part of my job is hearing the success stories from agents who have grown their businesses through our product. I love seeing firsthand how we help our partners succeed in real estate. I also enjoy building relationships and connecting with agents across the country, learning about their businesses, lifestyles, and advising them in ways that positively enhance their success.”
If you could give one piece of advice to someone aspiring to move into a role similar to yours, what would it be?
“If I were giving advice to someone aspiring to a role like mine, I would say always be yourself and treat our partners and future partners with genuine respect. At HouseJet, our goal is to help agents and brokers grow their businesses and advocate for their long-term success, so authenticity and integrity are key to building strong, lasting relationships.”
Looking ahead, what are you most excited about for your role and the company’s growth?
“Looking ahead, I’m most excited about the opportunities coming our way at HouseJet. We’re a rapidly growing company that continues to innovate and improve every day. One particularly exciting development is our plan to go public, which will open the door for employees and partners to have ownership in the company and participate directly in its growth and success.”
